By rail:
According to rail travel website The Man in Seat Sixty-One [www.seat61.com] you can get from London to Greece in 48 hours via train and ferry from Italy. His route takes you to the port of Patras from where you can get a train or coach to Kalamata. We haven't tried it yet but it sounds like a wonderful way to reach to Greece.
